in a nutshell
Reiki healing is an energy treatment that cleanses and rejuvenates your energy points…
…through bringing life force to your chakras, meridian points and energy field.
-
Simple
Reiki treatments use universal (or life) energy to heal our inner energy, and create the change required within us.
-
Non-invasive
Reiki healing can be hands-on (palms resting on the person) or hands-off (palms hovering over the person). There is no manipulation of the body or otherwise.
-
Rebalacing
The highest purpose of Reiki is to rebalance our inner world and energies, so that we feel more calm, at ease, peaceful and clear.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a holistic healing treatment, which uses universal energy to balance and improve an individual’s wellbeing.
The word Reiki comes from the Japanese Rei, meaning ‘universal life’, ‘universal energy’, ’sacred’, ’soul’ or ‘divine’, and Ki, which means ‘life energy’ or ‘life force’.
Reiki was developed by the Japanese Buddhist priest Dr Mikao Usui in the 1920s, and came to the West in the late 1930s. It is widely practised today.
What does a Reiki treatment look like?
A Reiki treatment is a gentle, non-intrusive healing, whereby the practitioner uses hand placements to direct Reiki (universal energy, or life force) to the client. The treatment can be hands-on, whereby the practitioner rests their palms on the individual, or hands-off, whereby the practitioner hovers their hands a few centimetres above the individual’s body.
A treatment can last anywhere between 30-90 minutes, during which time individual is usually laying with their eyes closed and resting. There may be gentle music playing or essential oils to soften the atmosphere even further, but these are additional tools that a practitioner may or may not use.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki promotes healing and wellbeing within us, and can help on our personal growth and healing journeys. Here are some benefits that you may experience during or following a Reiki treatment:
Reduced stress
Increased mental clarity
Improved parasympathetic (‘rest and relax’) nervous system
Reduced pain
Better sleep quality and length
Relieved emotional tension
Removed energy blocks and stuck energies
Chakra healing
Is Reiki safe?
Yes! Reiki is completely safe and everyone receives the healing that they need in that moment.
Who can perform a Reiki treatment?
Individuals trained by Reiki Masters to Level 2 can complete Reiki treatments. In the tradition of Reiki, a lineage of training must be traced to the founder Mikao Usui for this to be in the straight line of Reiki. This also qualifies individuals to join the UK Reiki Federation, which is the professional organisation in the UK and Europe overseeing and setting high standard for Reiki practitioners.
I received my training from Anja David, who is a Reiki Master and trained in the lineage of the Reiki founder, Mikao Usui.
