Ceremonial Cacao Recipe - with Rose & Lavender

A cacao recipe for a ceremony at home!

You’ll need just a couple of ingredients (including ceremonial-grade cacao, of course) and you’re free to change anything to suit your preferences.

I made this as a way to welcome spring, with the sweet and floral tastes perfectly complementing nature’s awakening.

If you’re new to cacao ceremonies, you can start here. For the health benefits of cacao, you can scroll to the bottom.

To make:

You’ll need: (Serves 2)

  • 30g ceremonial-grade cacao

  • 1/2tsp lavender, steeped in 150ml water for 5 mins

  • 150ml hot water

  • 1/2tsp vanilla

  • 1/2tsp rose water

  • 1/2 - 1 tbsp maple syrup

To make:

  1. Add the cacao to a small pot

    1. Depending on where you’ve purchased your cacao from, it may be stone ground, as nibs or as a block. If your cacao is in block form, I recommend chopping into small pieces first

  2. Add the lavender and hot water

  3. Stir and let simmer for 2-3 mins. as you add the rest of the ingredients

  4. Take off the heat and, if needed, use a hand blender to finish

    1. This part depends on the initial form of your cacao. You’ll likely have to especially blend if it didn’t come stone ground. You can use a whisk if you don’t have a hand blender

    2. When finished, your cacao should be smooth and it will likely have small bubbles reflecting the light

  5. Taste and add anything else

    1. We’re all different and different cacao products have varied tastes. Make sure your cup of cacao is to your liking

  6. Pour and enjoy! 🥰

For an at-home ceremony, you can follow these guidelines:

  1. Set your intention, take a few centring breaths and start sipping on your delicious cup

  2. Spend an hour or so in this space as you journal, meditate or do anything else that your soul needs right now

  3. To close out, take a moment for thanks and a few final slow breaths

Because ceremonial-grade cacao is minimally processed, it comes in a potent form, just as Mother Nature intended. Here are some of its benefits:

🧬 For the mind, it improves our clarity, mood and brain functioning, and it protects the nerves from injury and inflammation.

🧘🏼‍♀️ For the body, it protects our skin from UV light damage, supports heart health and is a source of numerous vitamins and minerals (like magnesium, iron, copper, calcium and potassium).

🩵 For the spirit, it works to improve our intuition, open up our heart and let go of the daily distractions blocking our inner clarity.

It’s also super, super high in antioxidants and contains compounds like anandamide (the ‘happiness molecule’) and phenylethylamine (the ‘love drug’) that especially improve our mood and inner clarity.
